New York Trip
We are pleased to confirm the following itinerary for our trip to New York

Tuesday, November 4 - Thursday, November 6, 2008

Tuesday
Departure The Dance Center in Tobyhanna at 9:00AM
Travel to Uniondale, New York and check in at Long Island Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.
Lunch
Travel to Northport, New York to meet with Ms. Elsa Posey of the National Registry of Dance Educators at 2:00 PM. Ms. Posey will talk to the students about Dance Education, developmental and educational theory, dance history, and the importance of discipline and tradition.

The Students will take a 1 1/2 hr Classical Ballet class with Ms. Elsa from 3:00 - 4:30 PM and then a 1 1/2 hr modern dance class with Ms. Renee Kurz from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. They have been invited to observe the level three modern dance class at 7:00, after which we will return to the hotel for a late supper. We will pack a cooler of healthy snacks for the breaks between classes.

Wednesday
After breakfast the girls will have a water exercise class in the pool. The class will be a structured class conducted by Miss Stephanie and myself and will last about 45 minutes. There will be time for "free swim" after class. We will also have stretch class and exercise in the fitness center. After lunch we will visit the Children's Museum to experience the music exhibit as well as a hands on experience in the "handicapped house" center to explore the science of movement and the human body. After dinner, we will attend a performance of So You Think You Can Dance at the Nassau Coliseum. We will return to the hotel after the dance concert.

Thursday
Breakfast and check out by 9:00 AM
Travel into Manhattan to Lincoln Center at 65th and Broadway to the Kaplan Studio to participate in the Lincoln Center, Scholars in Dance program, The Resurgence of Spanish Dance. We have tickets for the 11:00 show which will last about an hour.We are scheduled for a 12:30 tour of the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Complex, including all the theatres and other places of interest not ordinarily accessible to the public. There will be an opportunity for the students to ask questions and have them answered by the tour guide assigned to us. I suggest some on-line exploration before Tuesday so they can formulate some good questions.

Our Final stop before returning home will be Ellen's Stardust Dinner, a theatre district attraction where all the wait staff are singing actors. Time allowing, we will conclude with a walking tour of the Times Square Theatre district.

We expect to return to The Dance Center at or about 6:30PM

We are very excited about this trip. It promises to be exciting as well as educational.

Please feel free to call me with any questions, or concerns!

Cultural Opportunities

The Dance Center maintains a "Current Events" bulletin board at the studio. We post events here in the Pocono's as well as surrounding communities such as Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and Belvedere, New Jersey. Studio dancers have recently attended performances of the classic ballet, The Sleeping Beauty, performed by The Moscow Ballet at The Scranton Cultural Center. Our December offering included front row seats for a performance of the musical theater classic, Cinderella, by the Country Gate Players in Belvedere, New Jersey. Following the performance, our dancers were treated to a "meet and greet" with Cinderella.

There events are strictly "not for profit". We post "happenings" and organize trips to expand our dancers' experiences in the dance world. All activities are optional.
